What Is Cycloid Art?

Natsuyasumi Shotengai means "Summer Vacation Shopping Street" in Japanese. It is a small imaginary arcade of games, tools, memories, and interactive art.

A cycloid is a curve made when a point attached to a rolling circle moves through space. The idea is simple, but the path can become surprisingly elegant.

A line born from rotation

Imagine a tiny light attached to the edge of a wheel. As the wheel rolls, the light does not move in a straight line. It rises, falls, and traces a wave-like path. That traced path is the beginning of cycloid art.

Simple rules, rich patterns

When multiple circles, gears, or rotating arms are combined, a plain motion can create floral, mechanical, or clock-like patterns. This is why cycloid drawings often feel both mathematical and handmade.

From knowledge to experience

The Android app turns the same idea into something you can watch and play with. Other English pages provide lighter entrances to the wider shopping street.
